Toothless Plush #4: My plush!

Description

Here it finally is, my Toothless plush. After over 6 months of working on him, along with 2 others, I finally got him done.

He was shown off at the 3rd show in the US of the How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular in Wilkes Barre, and at Otakon 2012.

Like the previous plush, he is made from the Ultra Cuddle Fleece, which is amazing to hold, but I will probably never use it again because of how difficult it is to handle.

Some additions were made with this plush to try and make it more accurate to the real Toothless. I added rows of 8 scales to his two big horns, the same amount that he has.

Also, I curved his tail spikes toward the back, just like in the movie. I was very pleased with how that turned out.
In the center of his body, I put in a thin 1 foot pouch with the beads in it, to add extra weight. Because of how thin and long it is, you can't even feel that it's there.

Also, a special addition I did to this, cause I saw someone else online do it, I stuck a powerful magnet right where his mouth is. Eventually I will make a fish, and put another magnet in that, so it will look like he is holding the fish in his mouth.

The eyes this time were sculpted and sanded by me, and were painted by my mom, who did an incredible job. I was planning on painting them myself, but I was running out of time to finish him before the Dragon Live Spectacular, so I asked for her help. She also sewed the wings on, which saved me a few more hours of work. The eyes have 8 layers of Polyurethane to give them that shine, and protective shell. It was fun applying the layers, and just watching the brush strokes disappear.

I hand painted the Dragon/Toothless logo onto the tail using fabric paint.
All the claws this time are made with a very good imitation leather that will last better than the first plush.

Interestingly enough, I ended up using our very first pattern for the head that we made for the first plush. We kept trying to improve on the original, but the changes we made took away his cuteness. I think using this head brought it back, and helped make it the best plush yet.

This guy was a huge hit at the How to Train Your Dragon Live Spectacular. Children were frozen with mouths agape, girls were squeeing constantly, and I even had a few pictures taken. Kids liked petting it, as if it was a real animal, that was really cool.

However his popularity was even greater at Otakon 2012. Just like last year, I was swarmed countless times by groups of people. He had a small fish on his mouth, taking advantage of the magnet I put in there. The feedback I got from fans was so incredible and encouraging. I can't wait to make more things in the future.

So leave your comments, anything is much appreciated. I would love to hear what you think of it.
